Glentogher Heather Honey - Donagh Bees

Glentogher Heather Honey

Glentogher Heather Honey
When I was going to my apiary, I met this man who was doing volunteer work. He said you can put some beehives on my land if you would like. I was busy at the time, but after a while the number of my hives increased, and so I went there to take a look at the place. I was shocked - there was nothing there but trees! But I thought, right I'll put two hives up there to see what happens. After three weeks I went to see if the bees were still there. On my way I said to myself that the bees would have gone, and when I arrived, I was shocked again. These hives were so busy and better than all the hives in my 8 other apiaries. I don't know where they are getting the pollen from, and such diverse and beautiful colours. Now I have 10 hives in this apiary. I am very pleased because there are no other bees except mine in this area. I only keep native Irish black bees, so I can use this area to rear queens for the rest of my hives. I will also get heather honey from there which may be truly organic as it is so far from any cultivated areas. Anyone who has tried my heather honey always wants more. I have been very lucky to have found this place.
These ten white dots in the photo are our hives.
